(Brandon’s presentation will focus on parapsychology and his research on “Environmental Sensitivity and Paranormal Experiences”)

The study was looking at whether there is any relationship between environmental sensitivity and paranormal experiences. The physical environment affects every individual differently. Past research has suggested that certain people are much more susceptible to the physical environment than the general population (Landgrebe, Hauser, Languth et al., 2007; Pall, 2003).These environmentally sensitive individuals report an increased susceptibility to various environmental stimuli such as sounds, odours, lights, and electromagnetic fields (Jawer, 2006). Those who are environmentally sensitive also report a greater number of environmental conditions including allergies, migraines, and chronic pain syndrome. Along with the physical susceptibilities environmentally sensitive individuals also report a higher number of paranormal and apparitional experiences (Jawer, 2006). Past research regarding sensitivity and paranormal experiences has relied on self-reports of past experiences whereas this study was the first to test this relationship in an allegedly haunted location. A second aim of the study was to examine whether people’s unusual experiences may in part be due to subtle changes in the environment, specifically magnetic fields. Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are most often produced artificially by electrical power currents such as those found in homes and offices.
